Donald Trump said Sunday that the federal government is ‘ready’ to intervene as gunfire erupted in cities across the US during Independence Day celebrations, leaving dozens of people injured and at least 32 dead.
Chicago, appeared to experience the worst of the violence across the weekend as 63 people were injured and 17 were killed, including two children.Meanwhile in New York City, 44 people were injured and at least six have been killed.
Memphis, Omaha, Cleveland, North Carolina and several other cities were also rocked by a spate of shootings amid the holiday revelry.
In response to the troubling succession of incidents, Trump tweeted that crime in Chicago and New York City is ‘way up’.
‘Shootings up significantly in NYC where people are demanding that [Gov. Andrew Cuomo] and [Mayor Bill de Blasio] act now,’ Trump continued. ‘Federal Government ready, willing and able to help, if asked.’
Trump’s tweet was preceded by an announcement made by the NYPD that revealed two officers had been injured in the Bronx late Saturday after a bullet was fired through the windshield of their marked SUV.

Protesters in Baltimore hauled down a statue of Christopher Columbus and threw it into a harbor in defiance of President Trump hours after he compared them to ‘Nazis and terrorists’ in his Fourth of July address.
Just one day after Trump warned that people who ‘damage or deface’ statues will receive ‘a minimum of 10 years in prison’, a group of demonstrators used ropes to topple the monument and dump it into the city’s Inner Harbor.
Police were reportedly at the scene but did not intervene, as a spokesperson for the Baltimore Mayor Bernard Young explained that protecting statues was not a priority for the police department who were more focused on homicides and other crimes.
Elsewhere, similar acts of defiance and demonstrations were held in several cities across the country.
Flag burnings were also seen in Washington, near to where the president was hosting hundreds at the White House for a July Fourth fireworks display, as well as in New York City outside the Trump Tower, and on Trump’s Hollywood Walk of Fame star.
And at the nation’s biggest Confederate monument, which has been used as a meeting place by the KKK, the Black Panthers gathered to demand the removal of the racist sculpture.
In Baltimore, cellphone footage shared to Facebook, showed the statue of the Italian explorer with two long ropes slung around it as a bustling crowd waits. The group simultaneously yells ‘pull’ and the gargantuan statue falls onto the brick ground.

Canadian police said Friday an armed man who this week crashed his truck through a gate on the grounds where Prime Minister Justin Trudeau lives had several weapons and then roamed around the estate for 13 minutes.
Police earlier identified the suspect as Corey Hurren, a member of Canada’s armed forces and a reservist in Canadian Rangers.
Royal Canadian Mounted Police Deputy Commissioner Mike Duheme has not officially named the suspect despite Hurren being identified in several media reports.
Hurren, who runs a small sausage-making business, is believed to have driven 1,180 miles from Manitoba to Ottawa.

President Trump gave a fiery address at Mount Rushmore Friday night claiming that the ‘left-wing cultural revolution’ aimed to overthrow the American Revolution, painting a dark picture of the Black Lives Matter protests that have rocked the nation.
On the eve of the Fourth of July holiday, Trump’s message was about us versus them, calling those who didn’t support him ‘bad, evil people.’
He tossed red meat to a packed crowd of supporters – a majority of whom were not wearing masks nor practicing social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19 – telling them ‘we will never abolish the police’ and ‘we stand tall we stand proud and we only kneel to almighty God.’
And Trump vowed to deploy federal law enforcement ‘to protect our monuments, arrest the rioters and prosecute offenders to the furthest extent of the law.’
He promised Mount Rushmore, which loomed above him, would never be touched.
‘This monument will never be desecrated, these heroes will never be defaced, their legacy will never ever be destroyed, their achievements will never be forgotten and Mount Rushmore will stand forever as an eternal tribute to our forefathers and to our freedom,’ the president said in the opening minutes.

Epstein’s victims’ lawyer says Ghislaine Maxwell may kill herself or ‘be silenced’ to stop her spilling secrets on her high profile friends – as she spends her first nights in New Hampshire county jail
Ghislaine Maxwell is in the Merrimack County Jail in Boscawen, New Hampshire
She will likely stay there all weekend until she is transferred to New York City
Maxwell faces 35 years behind bars if convicted of the charges she is facing
Spencer Kuvin told DailyMail.com in an exclusive interview that Maxwell ‘knows too much’
He said she might ‘take matters into her own hands’ or that someone else may want to ‘silence her’ to stop her from spilling information
The 58-year-old has a staggering network of high profile friends
Among them is Prince Andrew, who has said he will speak to investigators
As Jeffrey Epstein’s ‘pimp’ Ghislaine Maxwell spends her first days behind bars, a lawyer for their alleged victims who predicted the pervert financier would die in jail says she will likely suffer the same fate.
Spencer Kuvin told DailyMail.com in an exclusive interview that Maxwell ‘knows too much’ and that powerful people may want to silence her even as she is locked up.
‘It may be that she can’t handle the fear of what’s going to happen to her and takes matters into her own hands or there will be people who are very afraid of what she has to say,’ Kuvin predicted.
Maxwell has an astonishing international network of friends and acquaintances, some of whom have no doubt helped her lay low since Epstein’s suicide.
Kuvin said people laughed at him when he predicted that Epstein would die in prison — but his gut is telling him the same thing about Maxwell.
Maxwell, 58, was arrested on Thursday on federal charges relating to her allegedly enticing underage girls for Epstein to abuse.
She won the trust of girls as young as 14 and brought them to a ‘trap’ she and Epstein set — and in some cases took part in sex acts, the federal indictment states.

More than 100 protesters faced off with the National Guard and police officers in Keystone, South Dakota on Friday after crowds blocked off a road leading to Mount Rushmore ahead of President Donald Trump’s arrival.
Activists and members of different Native American tribes gathered on a highway protesting the occupation of South Dakota’s Black Hills that they say were taken from the Lakota people against treaty agreements.
One group parked three vans across the road and took the tires from two of them to make it more difficult to remove them. Several demonstrators climbed on top of the vans chanting ‘Land back!’
Others held signs that read ‘Protect SoDak’s First People,’ ‘You Are On Stolen Land’ and ‘Dismantle White Supremacy’ while playing Lakota music in the 95F degree heat.
Authorities declared an ‘unlawful assembly’ before police and National Guard soldiers moved in and a standoff ensued, with officers using pepper spray and smoke bombs to disperse crowds.
At least 15 protesters were arrested after ignoring police officers’ orders to clear the area, according to The Rapid City Journal.
Ghislaine Maxwell will ‘never sell out’ Prince Andrew, one of her closest confidantes revealed tonight – as pressure mounts on the royal to speak to the FBI.
Laura Goldman, a New York stockbroker who has known Maxwell for several years, said she would ‘never’ offer information about alleged links between Prince Andrew and Jeffrey Epstein.
Tonight, it emerged the socialite was once photographed sitting in the Throne Room at Buckingham Palace alongside actor Kevin Spacey in 2002, years before police began investigating Epstein’s links to sex trafficking and abuse.
Maxwell could face up to 35 years in prison for six charges of grooming and trafficking after officers swooped on her New Hampshire bolthole on Thursday.
The developments have brought renewed pressure on the Duke of York to speak to investigators about his relationship with the disgraced paedophile billionaire, following back-and-forth claims that both parties were being uncooperative.
But Ms Goldman suggested Maxwell would be more likely to discuss Epstein’s dealings with former US President Bill Clinton and his successor Donald Trump instead of Andrew. No allegations have been made about either man.
‘The only way she can walk is if she gives someone up, but that definitely won’t be Andrew,’ Ms Goldman told The Telegraph, which published the picture of Ghislaine in Buckingham Palace with Spacey.
‘She is so appreciative that when she first came to New York, the Duke helped to launch her into high society. She always talks about what a true friend he is. She doesn’t see any reason to speak about him to the authorities.’
There is concern among royal circles over what implications Ms Maxwell’s arrest in New Hampshire on Thursday could have for the Duke, 60, who was reportedly introduced to the billionaire paedophile by her in 1999.
Tonight’s bombshell revelation comes as the Mail can reveal:
Maxwell started legal moves to purchase her secluded New Hampshire bolthole the very day after Andrew’s car crash TV interview;
Victims urged the duke to speak to the FBI, saying ‘more excuses, more delays’ were ‘torture’ for them;
The duke’s immediate fate rests with Home Office officials who must judge if the US can quiz him in a court;
Andrew’s accuser Virginia Roberts branded Maxwell ‘an evil monster’ and said she cried tears of joy at her arrest;
Ghislaine Maxwell’s confidante Laura Goldman suggested the socialite would more likely discuss former US President Bill Clinton and Donald Trump’s relationships with Epstein over the Duke of York.

Ghislaine Maxwell ‘will be naming names’: Jeffrey Epstein’s arrested ‘pimp’ is ‘set to cooperate with FBI’ in ominous news for Prince Andrew and she could be held in prison where pedophile ‘killed himself’
Maxwell was arrested yesterday on charges of procuring underage girls for Jeffrey Epstein to sexually abuse
She was arrested at a $1million home in New Hampshire and subsequently appeared in court by video-link
Pressure is growing on Prince Andrew to give evidence to prosecutors about his links to Epstein and Maxwell
Epstein’s former boss, Steven Hoffenberg said the paedophile’s ex-girlfriend Maxwell ‘knows everything’ and will ‘totally co-operate’
Between 2007 and 2011, Epstein transferred more than $20million into Maxwell’s bank accounts
She was arrested on Thursday morning at a luxury $1million estate in New Hampshire
Maxwell is currently in the custody of US Marshalls and her exact whereabouts is unclear
She is likely to appear in court in New York on Monday, after the 4th of July holiday weekend
Sources close to the Duke say they are ‘bewildered’ because he has repeatedly offered to help the inquiry
Andrew denies having sex with Virginia Roberts Giuffre, who last night celebrated news of Maxwell’s arrest
Maxwell’s dramatic arrest on sex-trafficking charges yesterday has raised hopes among Epstein victims that prosecutors will untangle a ‘spider web’ of rich and powerful associates of the pair.
The socialite and daughter of late British publishing tycoon Robert Maxwell was seized at a $1million home in New Hampshire and later appeared in court by video-link.
She is now awaiting transfer to New York to face charges of procuring girls as young as 14 for Epstein to sexually abuse – and could even be held in the same Manhattan jail where Epstein died last year.
If convicted on all counts, Maxwell faces 35 years behind bars at a maximum. It would mean she’d be 93 by the time she’d be released.
The latest twist in the case has ramped up the pressure on Andrew to testify about his relationship with Epstein and Maxwell, but sources close to the Duke say they are ‘bewildered’ because he has repeatedly offered to help.
Virginia Roberts Giuffre, the Epstein accuser who dragged Andrew into the mire by claiming she had sex with him in the early 2000s, last night celebrated Maxwell’s arrest and called her an ‘insidious creature’ who deserved to be locked up. Andrew denies her allegations, saying he has no recollection of meeting Miss Roberts.
Ghislaine Maxwell will be ‘naming names’ and ‘fully co-operating’ with the FBI and Prince Andrew is among those ‘very worried’ about what she might reveal, a former associate of Jeffrey Epstein has claimed (Epstein and Maxwell are pictured together in New York in 2005)
Prince Andrew (pictured during his BBC Newsnight interview last year) is under increasing pressure to give evidence – but the Duke’s legal team insists he has offered to help US investigators

Ghislaine Maxwell, the former girlfriend of Jeffrey Epstein and alleged madam who is accused of procuring young girls for him, was arrested on charges of sex trafficking and perjury this morning at a ‘gorgeous’ New Hampshire property where she’d ‘slithered off to’ to live in luxury, FBI agents said on Thursday.
Maxwell was taken into custody in Bradford, a small town in New Hampshire, on Thursday morning. Special Agent William Sweeney said at a press conference later that the FBI after ‘discreetly keeping tabs’ on her for some time and that she recently moved to the property.
It’s unclear who owns the property or exactly how long she had been there but agents ‘moved in’ this morning. No other circumstances surrounding her arrest are known. She is due to appear via video link in court later this afternoon.
A grand jury recently returned a sealed, six-count indictment against her which accuses her of enticing underage girls to travel for sex, actually having sex with them and Epstein and later lying about it under oath in depositions when she was being sued by Virginia Giuffre Roberts, one of Epstein’s accusers who says she had sex with Prince Andrew when she was 17.
The charges relate to incidents that happened between 1994 and 1997 and involve three unnamed victims, the youngest of whom was 14. The alleged abuse happened at Epstein’s homes in New York, Florida and New Mexico and at Maxwell’s home in London.
Epstein has been accused of abusing dozens more girls and Maxwell is tangentially associated with the decades of alleged horror because, the accusers say, she was always by his side or making arrangements for him and them.
Maxwell, the British socialite daughter of the late, disgraced newspaper tycoon Robert Maxwell whose impressive international network of friends and acquaintances includes the Clintons, has been a ghost since Epstein was arrested last June on charges of sex trafficking. She is who introduced him to Prince Andrew and set up the 2001 London night out when the royal allegedly had sex with Giuffre.
On Thursday, Acting US Attorney Audrey Strauss said the investigation into Epstein’s decades of abuse is ongoing and that she’d ‘welcome’ Prince Andrew ‘coming in to provide a statement’, prompting speculation that he may among people investigators may focus their attention on next.

A protester was seen on camera calling a cop ‘black Judas’ and saying he ‘should know better’ during a demonstration outside New York City Hall Tuesday night.
Footage on social media shows the protester, who moments earlier was dancing provocatively in front of a line of cops, screaming ‘traitor’ at the officer outside One Police Plaza.
The altercation came hours before the City Council voted to scrap $1billion from the NYPD’s budget, after weeks of protests calling for the force to be defunded in the wake of the Memorial Day death of black man George Floyd.
Mayor Bill de Blasio also announced this week that Black Lives Matter will be painted outside Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue in the city.
Police reclaim their precinct and at least 31 people are arrested after mayor FINALLY issues executive order and riot police vacate the zone which has seen two deadly shootings in three weeks and crime rise by 500%
Seattle police on Wednesday reclaimed their precinct in the city’s ‘occupied’ protest zone after the mayor finally issued an early morning executive order to vacate the area.
At least 31 people were arrested at the Capitol Hill Organized Protest (CHOP) zone which has seen two deadly shootings and crime rise by more than 500 per cent in just over three weeks.
People had occupied several blocks around a park and the Seattle Police Department’s East Precinct after officers abandoned the building on June 8 following clashes with protesters calling for an end to police brutality.
Calling the gathering at the East Precinct and Cal Anderson Park an ‘unlawful assembly’ Mayor Jenny Durkan demanded all barriers be removed in an order issued in the early hours of Wednesday.
Seattle police confirmed in a tweet early Wednesday that they would be ‘in the area this morning enforcing the Mayor’s order’. Officers in riot gear issued a dispersal order at 5am leading to the 31 arrests within just 30 minutes amid fears the protesters could now move to West Precinct.
Police tweeted: ‘Because suspects in recent shootings may still be in the area, and because numerous people in the area are in possession of firearms, Seattle Police officers involved in this morning’s response will be equipped with additional protective gear.’
Eyewitness Omari Salisbury said: ‘The Seattle Police Department basically reclaimed the precinct in less than 30 minutes, five feet at a time with the bicycle officers out in front.’
Speaking outside the precinct Wednesday morning police chief Carmen Best confirmed her officers had reclaimed the precinct, with the help of Bellevue police and the FBI, but could not offer a time frame on when they would move back in.
She said: ‘Our job is to support peaceful demonstration but what has happened on these streets over the last two weeks is lawless and it’s brutal and bottom line it is simply unacceptable.’
President Donald Trump has repeatedly criticized the Seattle protest area, as well as city and state leaders. He tweeted Monday morning that the protesters ‘have ZERO respect for Government.’

Sir Michael Palin backs calls to redesign Queen’s ‘racist’ knighthood honour showing St Michael crushing the devil – because it ‘looks like George Floyd’s murder’ as Jamaica’s governor refuses to wear it and 16,000 sign petition
Monty Python star received the honour in 2019 for services to travel and culture
The insignia previously featured a white angel standing on neck of a black Satan
But Cabinet Office say the design was changed in 2011 to a light-skinned devil
Governor General of Jamaica Sir Patrick Allen was given the old design in 2009
Monty Python star Sir Michael Palin has joined calls to redesign one of the Queen’s honours, which he received last year, after a petition was launched claiming its insignia is ‘racist’ and ‘looks similar to George Floyd‘s killing’.
The insignia for the Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George – one of the Queen’s highest honours – previously featured a picture of a white angel standing on the neck of a black man.
The image, which was changed in 2011 to feature a light-skinned devil, is actually a depiction of the Archangel Michael defeating Satan.
But a petition claims it bears a resemblance to the death of George Floyd, who died in May after a Minneapolis police officer knelt on his neck for almost eight minutes as he was being arrested.
Sir Michael, who was appointed a Knight Commander of the Order of St George and St Michael in 2019 for services to travel, culture and geography, has now backed calls to change the design, while the Governor General of Jamaica, Sir Patrick Allen, who received the award in 2009 and has the old design, has said he will no longer wear the insignia, reports the Telegraph.
The Cabinet Office says the premise of the petition is ‘inaccurate’ as the picture was redesigned nine years ago and now features a light-skinned devil.
And although Sir Michael said his insignia features the updated drawing, the comedian and television presenter has backed calls for a redesign after seeing other examples.

New York City’s famous George Washington Monument was defaced with red paint on Monday as protesters gathered across town outside City Hall ahead of a controversial vote that slashes the city’s police budget by $1billion – 16 percent of its total – despite escalating crime and chaos.
Mayor Bill de Blasio reached an agreement with the city council on Monday that divests $1billion from the police force and cancels the hiring of 1,163 cops. Some Democrats say it is a step in the right direction and that the police force – like others across the country – needs to be stripped of its power and resources to combat systemic racism and excessive use of force.
However others say it’s not enough of a hit to the mammoth force which enjoys a $6billion yearly budget. They want more money to be taken away, and say that much of De Blasio’s plan amounts to ‘gimmicks’. School safety officers, for example, will receive the same amount of money but will no longer be considered part of the police budget. Instead, they’ll be moved to the Department of Education.
But others – namely the NYPD Commissioner and Police Benevolent Association, one of the city’s major police unions – say the need for a strong and bolstered police force is greater now then ever before, amid bubbling tensions across the city and nation in the wake of George Floyd’s death.
Combined with de Blasio’s lenient bail reform that puts more criminals on the street than before and a court system that has been back-logged for months because of the COVID-19 pandemic, they say crime is inevitably on the rise and that slashing the budget is not necessarily the right move.
There are also ongoing complaints that the NYPD is not cracking down on low-level crime like people breaching social distancing rules while dining outdoors, drinking in the street or being generally anti-social.
In Brooklyn, residents have been terrorized for nights on end by illegal fireworks being set off through the night, seemingly with little intervention from the cops.
The city’s income took a $9billion hit when businesses shuttered at the start of the pandemic and now many remain closed.

A 16-year-old boy died and a 14-year-old boy was wounded after being shot at Seattle’s CHOP zone Monday
Police said they are investigating after witnesses reported seeing a white Jeep SUV near a makeshift barrier around the Capitol Hill Organized Protest (CHOP) zone at about 3am on Monday just before the shooting
Witnesses told 911 dispatchers that they saw several unidentified people firing shots into the Jeep, police say
Both teenagers, who have not been publicly identified, were taken to the Harborview Medical Center in a private vehicle by people who identified themselves as ‘CHOP medics’
The older boy died several hours later and police said the 14-year-old remains in a critical condition
Detectives searched the vehicle for evidence on Monday morning but said in a statement that it was clear the crime scene had been ‘disturbed’
Demonstrators have occupied several blocks around the Seattle Police Department’s East Precinct for about two weeks
Protesters have claimed the shooting unfolded only after the vehicle plowed into the CHOP zone and those inside the car started shooting
Those inside the zone say CHOP security, who are self-appointed and heavily armed, then returned fire
Surveillance video of a shooting at Seattle’s CHOP zone that left a black 16-year-old boy dead and a 14-year-old seriously injured shows gunfire ringing out as the Jeep the teens were in plowed into a barricade and a man screaming: ‘Oh you’re not dead yet?’.
Homicide detectives said they are investigating after the two teenagers were shot in a white Jeep near a makeshift barrier around the Capitol Hill Organized Protest (CHOP) zone at about 3am on Monday.
Those inside the zone say CHOP security guards, who are self-appointed and heavily armed, started shooting at the Jeep only after the teens opened fire on them and drove into a barricade.
Police say witnesses told 911 dispatchers that they saw several unidentified people firing shots into the vehicle but made no made no mention of whether the teens were armed and fired first.
In surveillance video, multiple gunshots could be heard in the distance in the minutes before the Jeep could be seen tearing around the corner.
A female CHOP protester could be heard screaming for their self-appointed security to have their ‘eyes up’ because there were ‘two people with guns’ in a ‘stolen white Jeep’.
When the Jeep came around the corner moments later, at least three loud gunshots could be heard before the teens crashed into the barricade. About a dozen shots were fired after the car crashed. It is not clear from the footage who the first gunshots came from.
A male could be heard in the surveillance screaming: ‘Get on the ground’, ‘Oh you’re not dead huh?’ and ‘You want to get pistol-whipped?’

Protesters camp outside City Hall in NYC for the fifth straight day demanding that Mayor de Blasio slash $1BN from the NYPD budget despite gun crime surge in the Big Apple and say they won’t leave until he does
Protesters in New York City have established ‘Occupy City Hall’ as they demand cuts to the NYPD budget
Hundreds are camping out for the fifth day straight calling on Mayor Bill de Blasio to slash $1billion
They’ve pledged to continue the encampment for as long as it takes
De Blasio has said cuts are coming but has not revealed any details on the extent to which the NYDP’s current $6billion budget will be hit

Police officials are warning against budget cuts as the violence spikes
Hundreds of protesters camped outside City Hall are demanding that lawmakers slash the New York City police budget by $1billion.
The ‘Occupy City Hall’ encampment began forming Tuesday following weeks of street protests sparked by the death of George Floyd and other black Americans killed by law enforcement.
The protesters are part of a national ‘defund the police’ movement seeking more spending on other needs like housing and education and say they won’t move until they see a budget cut.
It comes as violent crime in New York City skyrockets, with June now on track for the highest number of murders in a month since 1996.
Police officials warned the budget cut would come at a time when the city has seen a surge in shootings during the first three weeks in June.
Protesters sit at the stairs of Tweed Courthouse as hundreds congregate at the New York City Hall as part of the ‘Defund NYPD’ and ‘Occupy City Hall’ movement. The encampment is now in its fifth straight day of camping outside the building
Match a longtemps hésité.

In another brazen attack on the U.S., a Russian military intelligence unit has secretly paid bounties to Taliban-linked fighters to kill U.S. and coalition forces in Afghanistan, according to a bombshell New York Times report.
The report represents a deadly escalation in Moscow’s repeated efforts to undermine U.S. policy, and came as the administration was seeking to find ways to extract itself from the decades-long war by making peace with the Taliban.
President Donald Trump was briefed on the activity months ago, the New York Times reported Friday, citing officials with knowledge on the matter – but the U.S. took no evident action.
U.S. Intel believed the operation to have been initiated by the notoriously violent Unit 29155 of the G.R.U, an arm of Russia’s military intelligence agency.

Pictures never before seen of Vladimir Putin‘s two daughters from his ex-wife have emerged from the private collection of his one-time closest confidant.
The images show Maria and Katerina as teenagers soon after the Kremlin leader took power in the early 2000s.
They appear to have been released to enrage Putin by former billionaire Sergei Pugachev, 57, a former close crony who this week lost a £11.6 billion legal battle against the Russian state in a Paris arbitration court.
Putin, 67, in his long political career always hid his children away from the limelight, never permitting them to be seen and rarely even speaking about them.
Both are now in their 30s but they show the president’s daughters both inside the Kremlin and at Pugachev’s dacha – or country house – near Moscow.
The pink-faced young man at the dispatch box of the Oxford Union looked slightly bewildered. He glanced up at the packed chamber, nervously fingering his mop of blond hair, as if he’d been transported there through a window in the space-time continuum.
This was October 1983 and it was a ‘freshers debate’, an opportunity for new arrivals to make a good impression on the senior members of the famous debating society. I was due to speak after this young man and had spent several days preparing.
‘Can someone kindly remind me what the motion is?’ he asked in an exaggerated, upper-class accent. Who was this pantomime toff?
One man is dead and 11 people suffered non-life-threatening wounds in a shooting in Minneapolis, police said early Sunday.
Law enforcement had first said 10 people had been shot with ‘various severity levels of injuries,’ but revised their total upward in a tweet posted just after 3 a.m.
The area is about three miles west of the Minneapolis commercial area and neighborhood hit by rioting in the wake of George Floyd´s May 25 death. Minnesota began allowing bars and restaurants to reopen with limited service on June 1 after some six weeks of closure because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Police had not yet released details on what led to the shooting which is reported to have involved people firing ‘around 80 rounds’ at each other. No one was in custody in connection with the shooting as of 4 a.m.
A preliminary investigation indicated that ‘individuals on foot’ started shooting around 12:30 a.m. and later fled the scene. The victims have not been identified.
Photographs posted to social media show windows at the Landmark’s Uptown Theatre and another storefront shot out. Screams were audible on a live video posted to Facebook that showed the aftermath at the scene.
